Andrew Rae and Chrissie Macdonald are UK-based illustrator/artists, collectively known as Moonhead Studios.
Andrew’s vibrant and playful illustrations combine hand-drawn elements and digital techniques. He uses simple hand rendered line drawing and a combination of paper, felt pens, watercolour, ipad, iMac and Wacom screens to render irreverent images used in many contexts including newspapers and magazines, publishing, branding and advertising, animation and murals. He Art Directed the award winning BBC animation Monkey Dust, his graphic novel “Moonhead and the Music Machine” was published by Nobrow and he has illustrated “This is Warhol”, “This is Dali”, “Where’s Warhol” and “My Crazy Inventions Sketchbook” published by Laurence King. Andrew has also illustrated Tim Minchin’s book “You don’t have to have a dream” published by Ebury Press, Penguin.
Chrissie creates bespoke stained glass pieces using traditional techniques and exploring new ones, as well as working with a variety of materials to create playful, handcrafted, sculptural pieces for illustration, installation, exhibition and events.
Together Andrew and Chrissie have staged various live drawing and music events, inviting other illustrators, musicians, costume and set designers to take part. They’ve also collaborated with multidisciplinary studio Peepshow Collective, of which they are co-founders. These joint projects include animations and exhibitions as well as creative workshops at the V&A and Somerset House which explore printmaking, collage, drawing, animation, model-making and celebrity vegetables.
